Introduction To Solar Cells:

Often people take electricity for granted. People walk into rooms and with a flick of a switch light is scattered about the room. This is made possible by power grids set up in different communities around a person’s house. There are places, however, where it would simply be too expensive to install a power grid, for this reason, communities must think of alternate sources of power. These alternate sources of power are extremely limited when it comes to third-world countries. With barely adequate running water to supply their living needs, inhabitants cannot take power from running water. Subsequently, wind is an unreliable source of energy due to the inconsistency of wind. When taking all resources into consideration, the sun comes into mind. In order to have a light wave, there must be energy present in the wave itself. This energy "packet" is called a photon. Since there is a constant flow of light to the earth at all times, photons are everywhere. The only energy source that shows itself to be reliable and cost-efficient would be solar power. Solar cells make this possible. Solar cells are reliable sources of energy and bring power to people who may not have power normally. The solar cell is the power supplier of the future.
Hopefully through this site you will be able to fully understand Solar Cells and their uses through the world of today.  Feel free to explore this site in its entirety, and learn as much as you can.  This page was created for a Berkeley Preparatory School project involving the Honors Chemistry program there.  Thank you for visiting my site.

How to look at Solar Cells:

Solar Cells should be looked at as the best source of energy the world has ever seen.  Not only is it a constant energy source that does not depend on other resources in the world to be present, but it is completely free of any costs.  Solar cells last forever and since they have no moving parts, require very little maintenance.  The proper name for Solar Cells is "Photovoltaic Cells," which can also and will most likely be referred to throughout this site as PV Cells.  PV Cells are fairly easy to explain and understand, simply because in every aspect of each step, there is a very logical and deep process happening.  With this site's help, you should be able to, with the right tools and equipment, create a solar cell.
